The International Institute for Research and Education – Manila (IIRE - Manila), the newlyestablished sister institute of the IIRE – Amsterdam is formally open. In this connection, the IIRE-Manila team is glad and honored to invite activists and militants proposed by their national leaderships, as well as supportive progressive groups and movements,  to the first ever Regional Global Justice School to be held in Manila and Mindanao, Philippines.

Generally, the purpose of this first ever regional justice school is to reach-out more closely and gather activists, primarily, from the third world in order to collectively reflect on the present realities of the world and to strengthen the social and political agenda towards the New Internationalism through discussions on the praxis of different movements.

When:  November 9 to 28, 2009

Where: The first half of the School will be conducted at IIRE Manila, with some exposures and dialogues with various organizations and sectors in the National Capital Region. The other half will be a travelling/Mobile school to and around Mindanao, stopping by in key cities for topic discussions with allocated time for directly talking with the various grassroots’ movements and the communities of the tri-people of Mindanao.

Who:  Participants should be activists and militants proposed by their respective organizations through their national leaderships. Any other supportive progressive organizations are also invited and encouraged to contact the IIRE – Manila.

What : To be conducted in English, this session will be the first ever (regional) Global Justice School held away from Amsterdam. It will be conducted primarily for participants from Asia-Pacific but open to all who are interested and recommended. Most issues will be identical to those discussed in Amsterdam, with extra emphasis placed on the peculiarities of Asia and Pacific regions. Combining the theory and practice of social activism, half of the school will be held at the new IIRE-Manila building, while the other half to take place during travel to Mindanao Islands.

Fee: The registration fee for the School is socialized: for Asian participants and those coming from the third word the fee is 150 USD, while for those coming from Europe and other first world countries it is 485 euro. The fee covers reading materials, accommodation, travel expenses related to the seminar and all meals throughout the duration of the school within the country. Other costs, including travel to and from the Philippines, will be paid by the participant or their organization.  As participation in the school is considered to be a collective act, national organizations are encouraged to subsidize the registration fee of the participants.

Solidarity Support: Some very interested participants from the third world expressed financial difficulties in attending to the School. Solidarity support from all those who are willing and capable is therefore called upon in the spirit of camaraderie.  Any help is of great contribution.
