The International Institute for Research and Education - Manila formally announces the Third Asian Global Justice School (3rd AGJS)
What: The AGJS is an intensive three-week school. Participants will be coming from very different countries and sometimes different traditions. There are two principles that guide the set-up of the school. The first is to develop the theoretical and international knowledge of all the participants. The discussions are aimed for an exchange of knowledge and ideas between participants themselves and between participants and lecturers. Second, we aim to build links between Asian socialists and organizations.
The school is divided in three parts: context, movements and organizations. The school starts with a discussion of the social layers in Asia, moves onto the existing movements in the second part and ends with discussions on the role of socialists in these movements to organize the popular classes.
The days consist of three parts: a lecture in the morning, followed by discussion groups and a final discussion between participants and lecturer in the afternoon. There will be specially designated reading-time. Participants are asked to read the reading-materials the day before the topic is discussed in order to maximize the use of the introduction and discussions.
When: 17 July 2011 to 7 August 2011
Where: The IIRE-Manila building at Quezon City. All sessions will be done in Manila. Participants who would like to visit Mindanao for exposure should make prior arrangements. This can be done before or after the school at the participant’s own expenses. Who: Participants should be activists from different sections and befriended organizations in the Asia-Pacific. However, activists from other parts of the world are also welcome to attend. Ideally, the target participants are cadre-members with some degree of responsibility in their respective organization and movement. The school will be conducted in English, thus, participants should be able to communicate in this language as their will be no translations to be provided. How: Sending organizations should indicate the number of participants they intend to send before the end of December 2010. All these information should be sent to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . Fee: The participation fee covers reading material, accommodation and all meals throughout the school. As the participation in the session is considered a collective act, sending organizations are encouraged to subsidies the participation fee as well as the airfare of the participants. Endorsement: The 2nd AGJS was collectively endorsed by four (4) fraternal organizations in Asia, namely: the IIRE-Manila, the LPP in Pakistan, the JRCL of Japan and the AARM of Hong Kong. As experienced, endorsements are very vital in reaching-out for more organizations and movements to participate, to help in raising much needed funds, especially for the airfare of Third world participants and to make the event a collective one.
